As a straight shot you’ll notice chocolate, cherry, and a lovely spice in the finish, all wrapped up in a round body. In milk, the blend softens into marshmallow sweetness and a sweet chocolate flavor.

Our flagship espresso blend. We devote constant attention to Big Truck and think it might be the best organic espresso blend you can find. It recently won a 91/100 in the Coffee Review’s 2009 Boutique Espresso review. Big Truck Blend does change throughout the year. In the past, we would struggle to find a late season replacement for a particular origin as it ran out, thinking it was most important to have a coffee from the same country in the blend. This often resulted in an emergency shipment that was faded and tired. Rather than holding on to memories and strict recipes, we have moved to a seasonal approach for our offerings. Green coffee is a seasonal fresh produce and different producing countries have varied seasons and harvest periods. We strive to buy smaller lots of coffees to keep the blend as fresh as possible, yet the flavor profile for Big Truck always remains the same.

Currently Big Truck consists of 3 top shelf coffees:

Bolivia ASIPAI Cooperative - Last October we had the opportunity to meet with the ASIPAI Cooperative while sourcing coffees in Bolivia. The Cooperative is made up of 58 families. The members’ farms vary in size from 3 to 10 hectares. Each farmer processes his or her own coffee and brings it to the ASIPAI dry mill, where coffee is sorted, dried and peeled as it reaches optimum moisture content for shipment. Typica, Caturra, and Catuai varietals are planted throughout the Co-op.

Peru Cenfrocafe – We just received our first lot of Cenfrocafe coffee, freshly harvested in Northern Peru. Cenfrocafe is a brilliant project, with the vision to build transparent direct relationships between coffee growers and coffee roasters. The Cenfrocafe farmers receive much higher prices for their coffee with a transparency contract in place based on quality. To us, Cenfrocafe’s first effort is one of the very best Peruvian coffees we have ever tasted.

Ethiopia Natural Shanta Golba Sidamo – The Shanta Golba Cooperative is a member of the Sidamo Coffee Farmers Union. They pick only the ripe cherries and dry them on raised beds, allowing better air circulation and a more uniform drying process. Sidamo is known for coffees with fruit and floral flavors. The Shanta Golba is a great example of a clean, fruit-forward coffee. We roast this coffee with espresso extraction in mind; this roasting style preserves the body, sweetness, and fruit in the demitasse.
